Summer jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities, oh my!
It can feel like an uphill battle sometimes to help your teen find skill building opportunities in your local area, so we've looked into it.
At KidZania Tokyo, kids role-play careers, like a nurse in a NICU, which earns them Kidzos they can use to purchase goods and services in the mini city.
What’s New This Week 🕵️♀️
Nationwide Summer Programs for Teens: There are a lot of potential options for your teenagers to participate in during the summertime. With paid jobs, internships, volunteering, and more available (but competitive as ever), what’s the right fit for your teen and how do you find it? We’ve got you covered.
9 Summer Volunteer Opportunities for Teens on the East Coast: Giving back through their own hard work is a fantastic way to teach kids social responsibility and expand their viewpoints beyond just themselves. We recommend these 9 volunteer opportunities this summer, especially if you live on the East Coast!
Helping Your Teen Land a Paid Summer Job: While all of these experiences help build teens skill sets, a paid role might be the priority to build up extra cash for spending, school, etc. If that’s the case, we’ve compiled a guide to help your teen find, land, and keep a summer job!
What We’re Reading This Week 📖
The Average Cost of a College Education Is $153,080. These Are the Majors and Careers That Provide the Highest Return on Investment: With federal student loan interest rates at a 10-year high and tuition & fees rising 60% between 2000 and 2022, collegiate attendants are prioritizing careers with the highest ROI.
Dads are Feeling the Parental Burnout Too: Millennial dads want to change the perception and share more responsibility in parent duty, but some struggle to do it all.
The Decline of the Liberal Arts Education: A professor at the University of Tulsa writes that the decline of liberal arts programs is being driven by administrations focused on cost cutting, not by students or a disinterest in reading.
Youth Sports are a $40B Business: Yet another example of how much parents will spend on our children. And now private equity is following the money. The entry of big money has raised concerns that the cost of playing sports could rise further out of reach for many American families. 70% of 10th grade high school students from families with high socioeconomic status played a high school sport, while only 43% of 10th graders from low socioeconomic status families played.
How We’re Feeling This Week:
Feeling summer vibes with a tint of halfway-done blues. We’re three weeks into summer camp, but I’m already thinking about September and the start of school. Maybe it’s because we’re programmed out straight through Labor Day — a mix of NYC camps, Taiwan camps, and family trips. Or maybe it’s the fundraiser calendar email I just received from our school for 2025-2026. Plus the back-to-school ads. And Halloween decor now in stores. OR, my co-founder in her third trimester preparing to deliver this fall.
Not ready for any of this yet! So. Much. Going. On. All. The. Time.
Signing off,
Your Team at MomBrains
