What We’re Reading This Week 📖
Community Schools Offers More Than Just Teaching: As a part of their Learning Special Report during the pandemic, the NY Times explored the growing popularity of community schools, which go beyond “traditional” school offerings to incorporate services that nonprofits, businesses, and other common organizations often offer to families of all ages. An interesting concept as local communities become more important than ever! [from Jordan]
What To Do If Your Child Is Lost: Does your child know what to do if they get lost in public? Do you know what to do as their parent? Even the best parents in the world can lose track of their kids, but planning ahead will ensure your time apart and wild worry is minimized. A topic especially important to brush up on, as lots of family trips happen this season. [from Kim]
Movie Recommendation - Sinners: For those who haven’t seen Ryan Coogler’s new film, I cannot recommend ENOUGH! From the trailer, you might be expecting something scary, and while there is an emphasis on vampires, there are so many layers to this story - race, music, how imperialism affects us all, from the deep South to Ireland. And Michael B. Jordan’s acting as a set of twins is some of his most impressive work, which is remarkable considering this is the man who starred in Fruitvale Station. [from Jordan]
Kids Book Recommendation - Phoebe and Her Unicorn: My daughter LOVES unicorns and reading, so endless stories about unicorns is a staple in our home. Since the start of summer break, she’s been into the comic book series Phoebe and Her Unicorn which can be found on the Amazon Kids+ subscription and likely any local library. The number of late night giggles from her reading time has been pretty endless since starting this lighthearted series age appropriate for elementary school kids. [from Kim]
How We’re Feeling This Week 😎
The holiday has snuck up on us, but we’re excited to finally be in the thick of the summer season with a short work week! While our team travels the world, from the West Coast to Alaska to Europe, we’re taking in the moments and soaking them up as much as possible. We’ve done our research and made our plans, now is the time to enjoy it! We challenge you to do the same — what’s important to you this season, and how can you prioritize it?
