What We’re Reading This Week 📖
Are children better off when one parent has a job or when both do? U.S. teens differ in their views: About 43% of U.S. teenagers believe children are better off when one parent is at home, while 57% think it’s fine for both parents to work. An interesting look at the evolution of gender roles in younger perspectives!
The retro technology connecting kids to their friends: Some parents are ditching smartphones for their younger children and instead giving them modern landline-style phones (e.g. the Tin Can phone) to limit social media exposure and preserve simpler communication.
Americans are getting more worried about the tanking birth rate: The U.S. birth rate has dropped sharply, and according to a recent Pew survey, 53% of adults believe fewer people having children will negatively impact the country (while not necessarily a significant majority, but a worthy figure to note). Catch the reasons why those 53% are worried in this article.
How We’re Feeling This Week: 👰
Surreal! While Kim is celebrating the birth of her newest family member, I have a significant life milestone coming up soon as well — marriage!
Even though we’ve had a short engagement (engaged in January, eloping by October), it seems surreal that the day that everyone has been asking about is finally sneaking up on my partner and me. Time really flies.
Luckily, we’re keeping it pretty low key (Colorado lets you get married without an officiant or even witnesses, thanks pioneer times!), but even so, it seems there are always a few little tasks we need to tie up as each day inches us closer. Grateful to have Jenn holding down the fort during all our life changes!
And to think — this is probably the last thing I’ll publish as an unmarried lady! 👋
